• Anita Loughrey www.anitaloughrey.com   A friend from Writers' Holiday who has endless patience, creativity and knows about all the technical stuff I can never be bothered with. Anita designed this great website for me.

• Verica Peacock www.vericathefind.info   Verica is a writing friend whose book tells the story of how she was given away at the age of four to an uncle and aunt. At thirteen she was imprisoned but her father secured her freedom- only to be shot himself three weeks later.

Websites to help writers hone their craft

National Short Story Week www.nationalshortstoryweek.org.uk Be involved in the UK's first National Short Story week this November. It aims to get more people reading , writing and listening to short stories.

• Flair 4 Words www.flair4words.co.uk  Good friends, Cass and Janie Jackson, run this network. Great value for money.

• Great Writing - release the writer within you www.greatwriting.co.uk  Mike Atherton's great website for writers. One of the best.

• National Association of Writers' Groups www.nawg.co.uk  A National Association of Writers' Groups is a brilliant idea - to get all the Writers' groups in the UK together. I write a piece for Link, the association's newsletter, every other month.

• Writers' News www.writersnews.co.uk I subscribed to this magazine when it first appeared, never dreaming that one day I would be working for them and writing regular features for their Writing Magazine.

• Writers' Holiday www.writersholiday.net  Not all writing courses are the same. The jewel in the crown is Writers Holiday held every summer in Caerleon. Great courses, fab speakers and wonderful food.

• Ask About Writing www.askaboutwriting.net  A news and resource site for writers of all abilities everywhere. It updates on Saturdays. A free weekly news brief is e-mailed Mondays.

• Writers' Toolkit www.writers-toolkit.co.uk  Create your own 'toolkit' so that you can achieve your full potential as a writer. I know Sue Johnson from Worcestershire.

• Swanwick Writers' Summer School www.wss.org.uk   The website gives detail of schools gone by and to come and lists the successes of participants.

• Real Writers www.real-writers.com  I came second in the early days of the Real Writers' competition, which is now so prestigious. It gave me a huge boost.

• Words Magazine www.wordsmag.com  This site provides a list of books that you won't want to be without, including my Handy Little Book for Writers.

• Ideas 4 Writers www.ideas4writers.co.uk  The ideas and inspiration website run by Dave and Kate Haslett.
